Setting the Stage for Creativiy

Life can be busy and even if you are short on time, there are plenty of ways to enhance your creative practice. Whether you want to spend time creating art, writing, journaling, dancing, cooking, etc. setting the stage can support you.

Sacred spaces can be created in any environment. -Christy Turlington

Here are a few suggestions to help support your creative practice.  This does not mean you have to do all of these at the same time.

  • Declutter. This can be as simple as removing excess papers or a deeper clean

  • Play music. Pop on your favorite playlists to inspire the mood and tone you want to set for your session

  • Have meaningful things around you. Sea shells and rocks from the beach and some crystals are typically what I choose to have with me.

  • Diffuse essential oils.  Add your favorite oils or blends to the diffuser to add to your experience.  Depending on my desire, I may choose grounding oils or uplifting oils.

  • Candles.  I love “lighting” a candle to open a creative session.  I personally use a battery operated one for safety in my art studio.

  • Silence notifications.  This helps to keep focus and not allow distractions.

  • Gather what you need.  I do my best to have the materials(plus some extras)  I am planning to use easily accessible.  This way I don’t have to interrupt my creative flow to grab supplies.

Whatever brings joy, relaxation, inspiration into your space is perfect to support and enhance your creative explorations.

P.S. Reflections from My Daily Practice is a 12 week journal with full color interior pages with space at the beginning of each week to share your practices, intentions and affirmations for the week followed by pages for daily reflection and gratitude.  End the week if desired by reflection on how you feel, what has shifted and if there are any adjustments you want to make for the following week. You can purchase or gift a copy here.
